Volunteer Opportunities

Southeast ACSM has a variety of opportunities for professionals and students who want to volunteer and get more involved.  

We are especially interesting in providing early career professionals with opportunities for service and leadership in the chapter and experience toward achieving ACSM Fellowship.

We also want our student members to become active SEACSM members and volunteering at the Annual Meeting is a great way to do that!

Special Interest Groups

The Southeast ACSM chapter has several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that provide an opportunity for professional and student members to share, learn, and connect with members with similar interests.

Most interest groups hold a yearly meeting in conjunction with the SEACSM Annual Meeting, some hold regular virtual meetings and webinars, and others provide scholarship opportunities for students.

Special Interest Groups are free to join for SEACSM members, including students.

Biomechanics

The mission of the SEACSM Biomechanics Interest Group (BIG) is to connect researchers, students, and professionals focused on biomechanics and promote biomechanics research in Southeast ACSM through increased participation in the Annual Meeting and support of student research.

Military & Tactical Athlete

Mission

To advance the field by providing resources and networking opportunities to researchers, educators, practitioners, and clinicians focused on enhancing the readiness of tactical populations.

Purpose

To develop a regional network of professionals and students united by a shared commitment to improving the health, performance, resilience, and operational readiness of tactical populations.

The SIG was established at a session at the 2026 SEACSM Annual Meeting attended by 41 members.

Assistant Professor of Exercise and Sports Science – University of South Carolina Aiken

The Department of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of South Carolina Aiken invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, teaching, research, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise and Sports Science, with an expected start date of August 16, 2027.

Candidates must have a conferred doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree) in exercise science, kinesiology, sports science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment (ABD will be considered with degree conferred by the time of appointment). Candidates must be willing to teach undergraduate and graduate exercise and sports science courses as assigned in both in-person and online settings, including exercise physiology, biomechanics, functional anatomy, exercise testing, exercise prescription or strength and conditioning. Candidates should demonstrate potential for an active research/scholarship agenda involving undergraduate and graduate students, evidence of effective teaching, and a commitment to service to the department, university, and profession.

Assistant Professor in Kinesiology – Appalachian State University

Appalachian State University seeks an Assistant Professor in Kinesiology with an earned Ph.D. in Kinesiology or a closely related field. Candidates should demonstrate potential for effective undergraduate and graduate teaching and a record of scholarly productivity. Preferred teaching expertise includes exercise physiology, exercise prescription, sport and exercise nutrition, anatomy and physiology, exercise psychology, behavior change, data analysis, and research methods. Relevant professional credentials, such as CEP, EP, CSCS, CPSS, or CMPC, are desirable. Candidates should present a clearly defined, impactful, and fundable research agenda and demonstrate the ability to mentor students in research, scholarship, and career development. Evidence of service to the university, community, or professional organizations and postgraduate education or professional experience is also valued. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, typically on a 3:3 load, maintaining an active independent research program, mentoring students, and contributing to departmental, university, community, and professional service.
